Tertiary institution students visit CHPC to explore Africa’s fastest supercomputer

Since the installation of the Centre for High Performance Computing’s fastest supercomputer – the Lengau cluster – in June 2016, the centre has been inundated with student visits from various tertiary institutions.

During the month of September the centre has had visits from the University of Limpopo and Walter Sisulu University. The visits formed part of faculties’ intentions to expose their students to various opportunities in industry and research institutions

The tours normally include presentations about the centre’s technical and research activities and visits to the different labs including the super computer room. “The students are always excited about the demonstration of the “mini-super computer” in the Advance Computer Engineering Laboratory (ACE-Lab),” said Dr Daniel Moeketsi, Senior Research Scientist at CHPC.
